ParaTeck Market Development Inc. is owned and operated by Shawn
Nisenboim. Shawn’s
Biography Shawn helps organizations clarify and implement their strategies
through better planning, return on investment analysis and project
management. He is part owner of a software
company whose product he helped design as well as an expert project
manager and business analyst with a proven history of translating business
needs into winning technology. A former director of Canada's largest chapter of the Project
Management Institute (PMI), contributor to PMI's Earned Value practice
standard and certified project management professional (PMP), Shawn has been
actively promoting project management since 2003. He has published a number
of articles on Earned Value and its use as a powerful early warning system
for projects. Shawn’s
Career History Shawn was first hired as a market analyst after graduating from
the University of Toronto Bachelor of Commerce program in 1985. He was
immediately confronted with the problem of extracting decision support data
from inflexible mainframe computers. The desire to simplify and shorten the
process drove him to learn systems and build more flexible and efficient data
extraction tools. He quickly established a reputation as the person who could
painlessly solve business problems using technology. His first information
technology (IT) undertaking was at Kinney Shawn's reputation spread from the market research and analysis
area. In 1992, he was asked to join a transition team at the Ontario Lottery
Corporation (OLC). A $300 million business, that was converting 43
independent distributorships into 6 centrally managed regional offices, had
overlooked a critical component of its cash and inventory management system.
Shawn designed and directed the implementation of the first ever
client-server application at OLC. The system remained in production for two
years as the sole source of information about cash on hand, inventory levels
and revenue related to off-line lottery tickets. Shawn learned how to use process mapping tools to improve
business processes when he was called upon as a subject matter expert for a
very large systems overhaul at OLC that took 2 years to implement. Shawn
designed many of the user interfaces for the marketing and sales components
of that system. Soon Shawn was developing business plans with detailed return on
investment justifications for new business processes and multi-million dollar
product launches. He initiated and managed the development of new
technologies to support these plans. One of these new technologies was a site
selection system for lottery retailers which he presented at the 1995 North
American Association of State & Provincial Lotteries (NASPL) conference.
Another was a system, new to the industry, which introduced selling of
lottery tickets at grocery store checkout lanes. Shawn recognized the importance of the internet early but
concern over security prevented internet initiatives from being considered at
the Lottery. He left OLC in 1998, obtained a Masters Certificate in Project
Management, founded ParaTeck Market Development and took on his first web
development project at Compaq Corporation. He went on to work for a small
systems integrator that was building online marketplaces and other new web
technologies. There, he implemented project management processes that enabled
the company to take on large scale IT projects. He also managed some large
e-commerce implementations and turned around some very troubled projects. Shawn has been working as a ParaTeck consultant, managing IT
projects and developing business strategies and markets for technology
companies since 1999. Click here to view
